Journalist, Zakia Zaki, 35, was one of the most prominent radio journalists in Afghanistan. She was an outspoken advocate for women's rights and media education for women in Afghanistan. She ran the radio network "Radio Peace." On June 6, 2007 Zakia was brutally slain by assassins who entered her home in the town of Jabal as Siraj, about 70km (40 miles) north of Kabul. Due to this women are needed in the Afghan police force.Women have experienced more freedom since the Taliban was overthrown in Afghanistan, but some still face abuse from men unwilling to accomodate change.
